We have been close friends for 40 years. William has been diagnosed with terminal oesophagus cancer. He is coping reasonably well but we don't know what's going on in his head. His wife is looking after him as she always has but I am not sure she understands that he is dying, he has passed the time the doctor gave him and he is now in the last stages. I try to be positive with her and let her talk when she wants to and just be there for her .Is there anything else I can do to share the load?

    Hi Linda,

I am sorry to read about William’s diagnosis, it sounds like you are doing your best to support both your friend and his wife. You may find some ideas that you hadn't thought of in our section on the website How family and friends can help, you can access this information by clicking on the blue link. It sounds like you are already providing a great support system for them both.

Whilst it is great that you are looking to share the load it is also really important to look after and care for yourself. Many people tell us that it helps to talk and if you would like to talk about things in more detail please call our Free phone Support Line on 0800 090 2309, or drop us a line via Web Chat:https://www.mariecurie.org.uk/help

    Best Wishes
